Economic Reform
Fiscal Responsibility
Aldermen have to make smart decisions when dealing with hard earned taxpayer dollars. Council’s financial priorities should be the same as yours, and spending should reflect that. At the end of the day, spending control reduces the taxes and fees we pay.
Mike Pal will:
- Keep spending, taxes and user fees under control
- Only support major spending on our priorities
- Ensure tax-dollars are spent responsibly
Elimination of Waste
The City has to take a hard look at all of the services it provides on a regular basis. Continuously increasing spending on ineffective and wasteful services without seeking alternatives is not acceptable. We have to justify every activity we are paying for in order to seek out the fat and cut it out.
Mike Pal will:
- Propose a Zero Based Budget to justify all spending
- Lead the drive for contestability of City services
Political Reform
A Transparent and Representative Government
It’s not the government’s job to sell us things we don’t need. It’s their job to listen to what we want. It’s also their job to be open and honest with us. Decisions shouldn’t be made behind closed doors, and City Council shouldn’t hide from us or exclude us from debates and important decision making.
Mike Pal will:
- Seek your input on issues that are important to you
- Improve information access from inside City Hall
- Not support unnecessary private sessions of City Council
Crime Reduction
We all want to live and work in safe communities, free of gangs, drugs, prostitution, and other unsavoury and illegal activities. For that to happen, we need to stand behind our emergency services.
Mike Pal will:
-Give Calgary’s emergency services the tools and financial support they require to keep us safe
